My great-grandmother was Alice Edna Baker Southcombe of Morris, Grundy Co, IL. Her mother was Leah Jane Hampton Baker. Her father was Daniel Elias Hampton. His mother was Elizabeth Jane Sims Hampton. Information about her siblings has been mostly a mystery to me until today. I went searching in the censuses and I found most of them and some of them ended up in Lawrence Co, IL. The family history indicates that these are her siblings. I don't have documentation (other than a written family history) that these are her siblings and their families. And some of the family history has been proven wrong. However, the names of parents and children of these families closely matches the family history. So, I feel confident at least to reproduce the written family history here for any other researchers primarily of Luzerne Co, PA families that relocated to Lawrence Co, IL sometime around 1850. I will reproduce a transcript (as well as I am able) of the written family history in the post directly after this one.
This is a copy of the Sims family history which was written by Clyde Baker, brother of my great-grandmother, Alice Edna Baker Southcombe. Some of it has been proven to be incorrect.

Some years ago I connected with another researcher who was connected to both the French and Shoup families. So, I believe there is a connection with the French families and their neighbors in Lawrence Co, IL. By the 1860 census Jacob and Jane Shoup also relocated to Lawrence Co, IL (Lukin Twp).
It looks like some of the written Sims family history may actually be correct. However, I still don't have documentation that these are the siblings of my Elizabeth Jane Sims Hampton. The ages, dates and locations seem to fit but I am wondering if there was ever any correspondence or other documentation that would tie her to the Sims and related families of Lawrence Co, IL.
Sorry I made a mistake when I posted the family of Abram Arnold in the 1850 census of Newport Twp, Luzerne Co, PA. Please insert the following person between Elizabeth Arnold, age 41 and Jacob Arnold, age 16 :
Abram Arnold, 29, Farmer, b. PA
Sorry again for the omission of this very important person in this puzzle.
I am descended from Zura Sims and Catherine Arnold through their son Simon Sims and have done a lot of research on the family. Feel free to contact me at cdmclaughlin at comcast dot net.
I've spent some time trying to make sense of this and other "Baker" genealogy. I haven't contacted Barry Jernigan in awhile, but he seems to be working on this too. This and another lead ties us to the Mayflower, but so far too many holes to fill. I hope we can finish putting all of this together.
Contact me at gary-baker@uiowa.edu if you want. I'm working on the Rev Thomas Baker in RI, now.
